Vote!

I just voted for the TYIB awards, and I urge you all to do the same. This is where YOU can have an affect on the outcome. One person's vote doesn't change a lot, but all of Red Sox Nation's votes -- we can change everything! You can vote as many times as you want, too.
Here are my picks:
Closer: Papelbon
Starter: Johan Santana
Defense: Mike Lowell
Setup: Joel Zumaya
Hitter: PAPI (all of the hitters had some REALLY good numbers though... my vote was pretty biased)
Play: Mike Lowell and Grady Sizemore (gave 'em 20 votes each)
Blooper: Jeter & Arod and Alex Rios (both plays made me reeeeeeally happy)
Rookie: Papelbon
Performance: Dontrelle Willis (for a pitcher to hit 2 homers in a game he also pitched great is incredible!)
Manager: Jim Layland (he totally turned the Tigers team around)

Soo... go show some love and vote!

Matsuzaka!

The title of the article reads "Red Sox apparently win Matsuzaka bid." Go read it on redsox.com. Then come back here and celebrate with me! I know it's not finalized and everything, but I'm SO EXCITED! He's supposed to be amazing. I remember reading about him a month or two ago, reading that he was basically the only good pitcher on the market, and thinking we'd never get him. We'd refuse to cough up the cash, somebody (ahem.. Yankees) would outbid us... something would happen. I didn't even let myself dream it.
We'll know for sure at 8 PM tomorrow.
But if we do get you, be prepared for the best fan base in baseball. Be prepared for some great teammates. Be prepared for the adoration of millions.
And whatever happens, please don't turn out like Matt Clement and Edgar Renteria did. For the money we're paying for you, you'd better DOMINATE.

Yuck.

That was disgusting. Unacceptable. We should have won that game.
Corey Dillon had a good day.
But everyone else sucked.
6-3.
What happened?
The streak was blown.
Three games from breaking the record.
What happened to this team? We were 6-1. We were warriors. Formidable defense, powerful offense.
We can't give away games like this.

Football in the Rain

Football players make baseball players look like sissies. No offense. Football players play in the rain, in the snow, and in subzero temperatures. Baseball players play in the summer and they cancel their games if the weather looks bad.
Pats game at Gillete today. The rain is pouring. I'm ready. I'm wearing my new Maroney jersey (!!) inside my warm, dry house. The Pats are ready. Ready to go out in the rain and get soaked and clobbered.
I love football.
The Pats haven't lost back-to-back games in 57 games. We definately won't stop that awesome run today. 7-2 is a whole lot better than 6-3.
The Jets are only 4-4.
No prob. We got this.

I Miss Baseball

It's only been six weeks since the Red Sox' season was over. Only two weeks since baseball ended. Yet I'm baseball starved. I need Spring Training. The offseason feels like it should be over. I love football nearly as much as I do baseball, and of course I don't want the football season to be over, but football's only once a week. It's not the same.
So Foulke decided not to sign with us again. Honestly, I couldn't care less. Half the season he was on the DL, and the other half he sucked. The last few weeks he picked it up a little but by then it was too late anyways.
This morning in the Globe there was an article on Daisuke Matsuzaka, saying that the Red Sox may have been the top bidder. I want to get him soooo badly. Imagine a starting rotation of three 26-year old phenomena and two forty-year-old veterans! Schilling, Papelbon, Matsuzaka, Beckett, Wake. In any order. That's one scary rotation. If the Yanks take this one away from us and make a huge bid, I'll be so mad. It's not fair. They have so many expensive guys already, and we have... Manny. I think there should be a payroll cap in baseball like there is in football.
We have a lot of moves to make, but I would say this one is the most important. We need to make it, and I think we should make a high bid, because we have so many good deals on our team already--Ortiz, Papelbon, Lowell--that we can afford a splurge.

Seriously?

Two posts in one day :]
But this one's a mad one. Because i'm disgusted.
Jeter beat Gonzalez out for Gold Glove at shortstop. Despite the fact that Jeter (15) had more than double Gonzo's errors (7). And Gonzalez was absolutely spectacular all season.
No love for Mike Lowell at third either.
This was obviously just a popularity contest.
Not a single player from baseball's best defensive team won the award.

Here are the other winners:
P Kenny Rogers (5)
C Ivan Rodriguez (12)
1B Mark Teixeira (2)
2B Mark Grudzielanek (1)
SS Derek Jeter (3)
3B Eric Chavez (6)
OF Torii Hunter (6)
OF Ichiro Suzuki (6)
OF Vernon Wells (3)

Just Some Opinions

So... what's with all this fuss over Julio Lugo and Alfonso Soriano? I'm confused. WE DON'T NEED EITHER! Hello? Pedroia and Gonzalez or Loretta! Why do we need another middle infielder? We have three of them, three talented ones. And at this point, even though I had once argued that we should keep Gonzo rather than Loretta, my mind's starting to change. Much as I love Gonzo's defense, we can't have both Gonzo and Pedroia in the same lineup. Gonzo I expect to hit somewhere around .250 again, and who knows what will happen with Pedroia? It's much safer to keep Loretta, a solid, prototypical number-two hitter. That said, I don't have any really strong opinions. Except that we don't need any other middle infielders. Instead of getting some overpriced superstar, save the money for pitching. With good pitching and the good defense we're bound to have no matter which infielder we keep, we won't need to score as many runs anyways. Save the power hitting for Manny and Papi, and everyone else just needs to get on base.
My writing is pretty bad right now.
Sorry.
I'm getting rusty.
